The duo of Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan started their Asian Games journey on a high note after beating Timor-Leste’s Guterres Agapito and Antonio Mendes in straight sets in men’s doubles tennis on Monday in Hangzhou, China.
The Pakistan duo comfortably defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-0 in a one-sided battle that lasted for 36 minutes.
With their victory, the two also made their way to the second round where they will take on Chinese Taipei.
Meanwhile, in women’s doubles, Pakistan, once again, emerged victorious as the duo of Sarah Ibrahim and Ushna Sohail beat Mongolia’s Sonom Yanzum and Yesugen Ganbaatar 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets.
The one-sided battle lasted for 49 minutes after which Sarah and Ushna made their way to the next round where they will face Indonesia.
On the other hand, Sarah and Ushna, who won as a pair against Mongolia, couldn’t win their respective matches in women’s singles.
Both the players lost their matches without winning a single set.
Sarah lost to Philippines’ Alex Eala 6-0, 6-0. While Ushna became the victim of China’s Lin Zhu 6-0, 6-0.
Earlier on Sunday (September 24), Ushna handed a straight-sets defeat to Tajikistan’s Sumaya Tukhtaeva 6-2, 6-3.
Sarah emerged victorious against Qatar’s Hind Almudahka after a three-set battle 6-2, 6(5)-7, 6-3.
Pakistani duo Sarah and Aqeel came over Mongolia’s Anand Gankhuyag and Khatansuikh Batbayar and won the tie in just 48 minutes.
